Welcome to the Middle School 45 School Counseling site that highlights various issues during National School Counseling Week. These topics affect many of our students so it is crucial that our school community is aware of these issues. Thank you for visiting!
What is National School Counseling Week?
National School Counseling Week 2011 is celebrated from February 7-11, 2011 to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by American School Counseling Association, highlights the impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and emotional & social growth.
Current Issues Impacting Our Students:

Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is harassing, humiliating, intimidating and/or threatening others on the Internet. It can involve racial, religious or cultural slurs. It can involve someone the student knows or a complete stranger. Cyberbullying can include cruel jokes, malicious gossip, embarrassing information or photographs, and/or Web sites designed to target a specific child. Read more about Cyberbullying...
Stress
Stress occurs when a situation or multiple demands overwhelm an individual's ability to cope. In small doses, stress is a good thing. It can energize and motivate you and perhaps even prevent or delay certain types of damage to your cells. But prolonged or excessive stress — the kind that overwhelms your ability to cope — can take a severe psychological and physical toll.
